NONDISCRIMINATION ON BASIS OF SEX
Title IX of the Education Amendments of 1972, which became effective July 21, 1975, prohibits discrimination based on sex in education programs, activities, and employment practices.
The purpose of this notice is twofold:  First, it is an official notice that the Seaford School District has and will continue to take all necessary measures to fully implement the intent of Title IX; and, second, it provides the names, addresses, and office telephone numbers of those individuals who have primary responsibility for effecting compliance with these federal policies and regulations.

Dr. Russell H. Knorr, Superintendent of Schools, has overall responsibility for coordination of efforts to comply with and carry out this regulation.  He will also serve as the person to whom all grievances relating to discrimination based on sex should be directed.

Dr. Shelley Holt, Director of Secondary Education, shall have specific responsibility for insuring that no person shall, on the basis of sex, be excluded from participation in, be denied the benefit, or be subjected to discrimination in any academic or extra-curricular program operated by the district.  This will include but not be limited to course offerings, activities, athletic programs, and to counseling and placement services.
Mrs. Bonnie Johnson, Director of Human Resources and Public Information, shall have specific responsibility for insuring that no person shall, on the basis of sex, be discriminated against in hiring and employment criteria, including, but not limited to health and insurance benefits and services.

It is the purpose of this act to expand and develop vocational education programs to meet the needs of the nation’s existing and future work force.

Year-long counseling and information sessions are made available to these students.  These sessions are to help enable handicapped and disadvantaged students to choose, enroll in, succeed in, and graduate from vocational programs which meet the needs, abilities, aptitudes, and interests of these students
.
Admission to CTE programs is open to all students enrolled in Seaford School District.  Enrollment in higher level courses often requires passing grades in lower level courses in the same pathway.

Student Records:
The Seaford School District takes its responsibilities for the maintenance and confidentiality of student records very seriously, and the district fully complies with the requirements of the Family Education Records Privacy Act [20 U.S.C. 1232g(a) (5) (A)].  Parents may have full access to these records by contacting their child’s principal.  Parents are also hereby notified that the district may, with or without  permission, release “directory information,” including names, addresses, telephone listings, date and place of birth, dates of attendance, participation in officially recognized activities and sports, major fields of study, awards received, and weight and height (if a member of an athletic team).  Any parent (or student if 18 years of age or older) wishing not to have such information released must notify the child’s principal prior to September 30th.

Title I Notice
All of the K-8 schools in the Seaford School District are Title I schools and have schoolwide programs.  Schoolwide Title I programs count on parent support.  All parents are invited to help plan and take part in their school’s program.  Title I schools receive extra funds to improve the performance of students most in need of educational help.  As a parent, you are part of the Title I team!  You influence your child’s education more than any teacher or school.  Your involvement can boost your child’s achievement!  We encourage you to learn more about Title I and to take an active role at your school.  Show your child how important he or she is to you, and how important education is to you.

Notice to Parents regarding Internet Useage
The Internet and its resources are an important part of the instructional process at both Seaford Middle and Seaford High Schools.  Middle and high school students will be allowed to use the computer network and the Internet by signing an Acceptable Use form at the beginning of each school year.  The Acceptable Use form outlines the students’ acceptable behavior while using the Internet and the computer network.  Students will not be allowed to use the Internet unless they sign the form.  Middle and high school parents who wish that their children not be granted this permission should submit requests to the school principal in writing.  Students will only use the Internet under the direction of a school teacher or media specialist.  Students will not be allowed to access private e-mail accounts or chat rooms using the school network.  Middle and high school students will have to enter a user name and password to use the computer networks daily.  This will allow for better control and monitoring of how students use the computer network and which Internet sites they visit.
In addition, students in grades 3 through 5 at our elementary schools are required to sign an acceptable use policy in order to access the Internet.
